Hey, I’m Rob!
I love the outdoors, good stories, and searching for the next great travel adventure. I’m a Sr. Account Manager at a media & publishing company called Launch Potato.*
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, I graduated from the University of Utah in 2014 with a BA in English Literature and an emphasis in Environmental Studies and Literature, in an apparent attempt to be almost fully unemployable.
Most of the time I am based in the mountains just outside of Salt Lake City, UT, but also like to leverage remote work to explore new spots for longer stretches of time when I can.
*Seriously, that is the name.
Interests
Outdoors. The American West – The mountains, deserts, rivers, and valleys of the area are incredible and very special for me. I have always loved exploring them and enjoy that each season of the year has some new activities to explore.
Skiing - I have been skiing since about 2 years old. My home base is Alta, UT, but I enjoy Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee in Wyoming a lot too. Other great spots include Beaver Mountain, UT,
Mountain Biking
Rock Climbing
Snowmobiling
Golf
Camping & Overlanding - In early 2022 I began outfitting my 2017 GMC Sierra with an overlanding set up. Recent additions include a bed rack, roof top tent, awning, and leveling kit with off-roading wheels and tires. Recent Overlanding expeditions include:
White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park near Moab, UT
Zion National Park
Across the Sierra Nevada Mountains
From San Francisco, CA to Austin, TX w/ stops in SW Colorado and Mesa Verde National Park
Carlsbad, NM
Driggs, ID
Bend, OR and surrounding areas
Uinta Mountains, UT
Others I am forgetting right now and more to come!
Writing. I have been trying to put together bits and pieces of writing I have done over the years into one spot where I can continue to add as I go. Feel free to check out what I have so far right here.
There is some really great writing I check in on regularly as well, such as:
Semi-Rad - an outdoor focused artist and essayist.
Outside Magazine - Can be hit and miss, but their long form content has some great reads
McSweeney’s - the best crowdsourced satire page on the web, and they have been around for years. (In particular - On the Implausibility of the Death Star Trash Compactor is an all time classic)
News - The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Politico and a few others for deeper dives
The Ringer - sports, pop culture, The Rewatchables podcast
Nick Roberts - Just because he is one of my best friends doesn’t mean I can’t shout him out here too. He puts out videos, essays, and a podcast, all of which are great. (Plus, you can check out this embarrassing video of a few of us getting our rigs stuck in the mud on his Youtube page…)
This American Life - There are lot’s of great podcasts out there that I enjoy, but always end up back here too
